Our Impact

Our grants empower nonprofit organizations to respond in significant ways to critical needs, to attempt bold new ventures and to take innovative approaches to ongoing problems. We give broadly - not just to women's causes but to a wide range of organizations serving arts and culture, education, environment, health and human services. Our large impact grants of $50,000 - $100,000 provide a reliable source of funding in our communities.

Our philosophy of informed and sustained collective giving builds a stronger community and engages women as leaders in philanthropy.

Our learning programs educate members and the public about community needs, local nonprofits and best practices, innovative approaches and emerging trends in philanthropy.

Our model serves as a visionary resource for new foundations throughout the state, the region and the nation.

J. Lee Nelson, MD“In 2001, Washington Women's Foundation invited me to submit a grant proposal to help fund my medical research into the effect of pregnancy on autoimmune diseases. It really touched me that an organization in my own community wanted to be involved in my work.

“As I found out more about the Foundation I became very interested and impressed and decided to become a member.”

“I love my work, but it's very intense. I felt like I was missing a lot of the big picture of my community and the world around me unrelated to medicine. The Foundation has provided me with a wonderful forum to tune into the arts, the environment, education and social services. It has been a way to expand my horizons and my friendships. I was amazed at how thoughtful, fair and grounded the grants process was. I found an opportunity much greater than I could have imagined to understand the larger world of great deeds and great needs.”

“The Foundation has established intelligent ways for us to make a real impact on our community and to make the world a better place. As a grant recipient, I know first hand what a difference it makes.”
