15 Organizations Selected for Site Visits in 2008
The 2008 Grant Committee has selected 15 organizations, three in each work group, to receive site visits from the Grant Committee. Congratulations to all of these organizations and thank you to the Grant Committee for completing the second phase of the grant cycle!

Arts & Culture
  • Artist Trust [www.artisttrust.org] Support for their core programs that provide grants and fellowships to individual artists.
  • Seattle Shakespeare Company [www.seattleshakespeare.org] Expansion of their touring program to bring professional theatre productions and education programs to geographically under served areas of Washington state.
  • Youth in Focus [www.youthinfocus.org] Expand YIF program to empower urban teens, through photography, to make positive changes within their lives into the curriculum of South Lake High School in the Rainier Valley, which now has no arts programming.
Education
  • Friends of the Children [www.friendsskc.org] Support for their programs to provide long-term mentoring support for low-income, vulnerable children, from Kindergarten continuously through high school graduation.
  • Seattle Education Access [www.seattleeducationaccess.org] Expansion of their program that helps poor and homeless youth to transition to local community colleges and supports them through graduation.
  • Summer Search Seattle [www.summersearch.org] Support for their program that inspires low-income high school students to leadership and educational achievement through year-round mentoring, summer experiences, college advising and an ongoing support network.
Environment
  • Environmental Coalition of South Seattle [www.ecoss.org] Support ECOSS’ multi-cultural environmental education outreach programs to develop cleaner, safer and healthier communities.
  • Northwest Sustainable Energy for Economic Development [www.nwseed.org] Support to develop and implement an urban sustainable energy project in Seattle, working with the City and community groups.
  • PCC Farmland Trust [www.pccfarmlandtrust.org] Support to purchase a conservation easement on an organic farm to keep the land in organic production in perpetuity.
Health
  • First Place [www.firstplaceschool.org] To expand and deepen mental health services on-site at this school for homeless children, many of whom have been exposed to traumatic events and struggle with trauma-related disorders.
  • Perinatal Treatment Services [www.ptswa.org] Support for substance abuse treatment and care for homeless or low-income women who are pregnant and/or have young children, allowing mother and child(ren) to stay together during treatment.
  • Refugee Women's Alliance [www.rewa.org] Development of a program to assist Somali refugees to Seattle to access health and emergency medical care.
Social Services
  • Girl Scouts of Western Washington [www.girlscoutsww.org] Support for Girl Scouts Fostering a Future, a program specifically serving girls in foster care.
  • Plymouth Housing Group [www.plymouthhousing.org] Support for operating and support services for housing for homeless and very poor residents in Seattle.
  • Senior Services [www.seniorservices.org] Support for services for the expanding senior population in King County, including those for the increasingly diverse cultural and language needs of the community.
