For Grant Seekers

Each year, Washington Women's Foundation makes a powerful impact on local nonprofit organizations in the areas of the arts and culture, education, the environment, health, and human services. We welcome the interest of 501(c)(3) organizations through the submission of a Letter of Inquiry. Success Story:

Finding a cure for a life-threatening disease

In a few short years, pediatric cancer expert Dr. James Olson parlayed a $50,000 start-up grant from the Washington Women's Foundation into a brain tumor resource lab with an annual budget of $2 million and a staff that has grown from two to 19.

Dr. Olson, an attending physician at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center and an associate member at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, credits the grant for helping to make possible his research team's recent strides in the fight to save the lives of children who suffer from brain tumors.

“With the support of Washington Women's Foundation, I really feel like I have the community behind me," says Olson. "The questions I was asked by the Grant Committee were as good as, or maybe better than, those asked on the National Institutes of Health site visit.”
